This strip of land is still in its natural state and extends from Lion's Head down to the sea, giving visitors a view of one of the most beautiful natural spots in the Cape peninsula. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 7 December 1962. It has subsequently been restored and mantained by; The Camps Bay Retreat Hotel! It is surrounded by manicured gardens you can admire the incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean. The Earl's Dyke Manor & Nature Reserve was purchased by Mr Thomas Earl Skaife from the Cape Marine in 1911. This estate was sold in 1922 to Mr Friedrich Wilhelm Knack, who in 1928, demolished the house and built the current Camps Bay Manor House which was designed by William Grant.
