Boshof House, Boshof Avenue, Newlands

The building was erected on a portion of the historic Boshof Farm, owned by Alexander van Breda. Its construction dates from the early 19th century, and it was extended and redesigned during the 1840s when a number of Victorian features were added. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 15 March 1985.The gateway to Boshof House was built in 1793, and is one of the few structures to have survived from the old Goed-en-Quaad Estate, formerly owned by Alexander van Breda. It is regarded as one of the finest and best preserved Cape gateways, and following its restoration in 1940, it was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 17 January 1941.
