Anatomy of the Ricksha:

  • Two types of passenger seat: deep draft for passengers and shallow draft for goods.
  • Box underneath seat, which after 1915, usually contained a mandatory rainproof cape.
  • Attempts at locating a luggage shelf behind seat unbalanced the vehicle and were abandoned.
  • Shafts with security bar.
  • Two sizes of wheels recorded, banded with solid India rubber. Spokes were fixed and tension could not be adjusted.
  • Simple axle with double wishbone suspension.
  • Fold-up canvas top.
  • Lantern.
  • Security anchor.
  • Bell, by law.
  • Name of owner, license number and grade of transport.
