Walter Sisulu tries to recruit 5 000 volunteers during ANC meeting to protest forced removal of “Black Spots”
This Day in History: 26 June 1954
On 26 June 1954 Walter Sisulu addressed a meeting of the African National Congress (ANC) at the Communal Hall in Johannesburg. At the meeting he a spurred people to volunteer by pointing out that "we need 5 000 volunteers but we must get them before the removal of the ‘black spots’ begins, they must then be ready.”
