On the Eve of the Soweto Uprising, Soweto, 15 June 1976
By this day in 1976, the plan was already set. Days earlier, students had formed an Action Committee and agreed to march on 16 June. They were protesting an order to be taught in Afrikaans. The route was chosen and peaceful discipline was stressed. The plan was kept quiet. Most parents knew nothing of it. Many pupils would only hear of the march the next morning. The uprising that would change South Africa began the following day.
