The United Nations Group of Experts on Apartheid presented its report to the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN). The group suggested the creation of a National Convention to set a new course for South Africa’s future and envisaged the removal of restrictive segregation legislation. This follows the UN Security Council resolution taken on 4 December 1963, where the Group of Experts was formed. According to the report, "a principal objective of the national movement amongst the majority of South Africans has been a fully representative National Convention as the doorway to democracy."
