Tripartite Alliance plans mass action

13 July 1992
The Tripartite Alliance, consisting of the African National Congress (ANC), South African Communist Party (SACP) and Congress of South African Trade Union (COSATU), outlined a mass action plan for August. The resolution was adopted after the Convention for Democratic South Africa (CODESA) negotiations at World Trade Centre in Kempton Park broke down after Boipatong massacre in 1992. COSATU played a pivotal role in the implementation of the mass action campaign since it was not actively involved in the negotiations. The mass action commenced on 3 rd to 5 th August with about 4 million workers staying away from work.
