Trans-Kalahari main road is opened

8 April 1998
The first road in Africa south of the Sahara to connect the Atlantic and Indian Ocean, the Trans-Kalahari main road, was opened. The road, linking Maputo in Mozambique to Walvis Bay in Namibia, passes through South Africa and Botswana.
