South African Press Association is established

The South African Press Association (SAPA) was established as a non-governmental institution in 1938 by South Africa's major newspapers to facilitate the sharing of news, both national and international. It is a primary institution of breaking news in  South Africa serving all forms of media ranging from radio, newspaper, television and the internet. The news content is supplied in text and multimedia formats, such as photographs and videos. Its head office is in Johannesburg, but it also has offices in Cape Town, Durban and Bloemfontein and in Parliament.
