South Africa win the most medals at the 7th All African Games

This Day in History: 18 September 1999
6000 athletes from around the African continent gathered in Johannesburg for the 7th All Africa Games, which opened on 9 September 1999. By 18 September South Africa had gained the most medals on the log with 180, followed by Egypt with 156 medals and Nigeria with 128 medals. The closing ceremony of the games was on 19 September. The 1999 Games included: athletics, baseball, basketball, boxing, cycling, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, karate, netball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling.
