This Day in History: November 16, 1966
Additional Date: November 16, 1966
Siamese twins have successfully been separated in the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town. The operation, which was conducted by surgeon Syd Cywes, was the first of its kind in the medical history of South Africa. Since that first operation more Siamese twins have successfully been operated on in this hospital than in any other hospital in the world.
