SA withdraws from the International Labour Organisation

This Day in History: 11 March 1964
In February 1964 the International Labour Organisation (ILO) voted in favour of the suspension of South Africa from its Annual General Conferences. The ILO objected to South Africa's system of racial discrimination and labour practices, which it regarded as "seriously disturbing international peace and security". Initially, South Africa declined to withdraw, but on this date it stated in a communication its decision to withdraw from the organisation. The date is given as 14 March in another source, but 11 March is mentioned in the official declaration by the International Labour Conference on July 8, 1964.
