A member of the South African Police Services (SAPS) from Mafikeng in North West, Andrew Kelehe, won the 90km Comrades Marathon from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. Kelehe dedicated his win to his late baby daughter who died at the age of eighteen months in February 2000. He won the down run marathon in the second-fastest time of 5 hours 25 min 51 sec, the first SA Black man to win since Sam Tshabalala in 1989.
