Ray Simons dies

Rachel Alexander (Ray) Simons, legendary communist and trade unionist born in Latvia in 1914, died in Cape Town at the age of 91. Simons was instrumental in the formation of the Federation of South African Women (FEDSAW) and the drafting of the Women's Charter.
