Michael Paul Sibisi was born in Umkhumbane, Durban on 23 September 1948.  He studied art at the Ndaleni Educational Training School under Lorna Peirson. After completing his studies, he went on to teach at the Appelsbosch Training College at Oswatini from 1969 to 1971. Between 1973 and 1974, Sibisi found himself back in school when he was awarded a bursary by the South African Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR) to study at Rocke’s Drift. Sibisi has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the Graphic Art Award at the Black Expo of 1973. He has also held a number of exhibitions locally and abroad. He has since set up a cultural workshop in KwaZulu Natal and he still teaches art.
