Arouna Kone was born in Anyama, CÁ´te d'Ivoire on 11 November 1983. Kone began his football career as a player for his hometown team Rio Sport d'Anyama. In 2002 he was signed by Belgian team Lierse S.K., he was only 18 years old. The team introduced him to the international scene. He subsequently moved on to teams like Netherlands’ Roda JC and PSV Eindhoven, Sevilla , Levante and Hannover 96.
Arouna has been plagued with injuries and health issues throughout his career. He has had an operation to repair a knee ligament injury in 2008 and contracted Malaria in 2007. There have also been unconfirmed rumours of a heart complication. Kone currently plays for Wigan Athletic as a striker. He has represented his country in both the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
