Hester Elizabeth Cornelius is born

Hester Elizabeth Cornelius, national organiser and branch secretary of the Garment Workers' Union (GWU), was born in Lichtenburg, Transvaal. Hester played an important role in the defence of the union by organising cultural activities, which used Afrikaner symbols and experiences to convey class struggle.
