Harry Beltsazer Hart was born in Harrismith, Free State on 2 September 1905.[i] He attended the University of the Free State.[ii] Hart won six medals at the 1930 and 1934 Commonwealth Games, of which he was crowned shot put and discus champion during both the Games and attained a silver and bronze in the javelin.[iii] He dominated the South African athletic scene during the years 1926 and 1946, collecting 31 gold medals altogether, of which 15 was for shot put, nine was for discus, two was for hammer throw, three was for javelin, and lastly four was for pole vault.[iv] Hart was selected to represent South Africa on eight individual occasions, which included representing his country at both the 1928 and 1932 Olympic Games.[v] He finished 11th in the decathlon competition of the 1932 Summer Olympics.[vi] Hart passed away on 10 November 1979 in Reitz, Free State.[vii]
