General Louis Botha dies

General Louis Botha, soldier, statesman and first prime minister of the Union of South Africa, died in Pretoria after a heart attack. The heart failure was preceded by a cold that had developed into pneumonia while on his farm Rusthof. Very ill, he returned to his home in Pretoria where he died. He was buried in the Rebecca Street cemetery in Pretoria on 30 August.
