This Day in History: October 11, 1961
Additional Date: October 11, 1961
The United Nations General Assembly decided by 67 votes to 1 (South Africa) with 20 abstentions, to censure the Foreign Minister of South Africa Eric Louw for his offensive speech in the General Assembly. A staunch defender of apartheid, Louw was also infamous for his characterisation of Chief Albert Luthuli's Nobel Prize acceptance speech as propaganda.
