The father of Rosalind Ballingall joins the search for his missing daughter

18 August 1969
Rosalind Ballingall was a student at the University of Cape Town (UCT) who reportedly disappeared in the Knysna Forest. The daughter of a Rand Mine's executive, Rosalind left Cape Town on 11 August 1969 to spend the weekend at a popular hippie spot, the Sugarhouse. She was thought to have been involved in a cult know as the Cosmic Butterfly and was suspected of having attended a drug den party at the edge of the forest the night before she disappeared. News about Rosalind's disappearance spread around the country and conflicting reports as to her whereabouts made the search more difficult. On 18 August 1969, her father left Johannesburg in search of her, but all attempts to find Rosalind had been unsuccessful. To date, neither Rosalind nor her remains have been found and the mystery of her disappearance remains unsolved. Related: The Ballad of Rosalind Ballingall - a film of her life and disappearance
