This Day in History: 13 August 1948
The second Black minister of defence, Mosiuoa Gerard Patrick Lekota is born in Kroonstad, Free State (the former Orange Free State). Lekota is commonly known as 'Terror' Lekota, a nickname he received from the soccer field. Lekota joined anti-apartheid movements in the early 1970s. He served six years on Robben Island after being found guilty of sabotage under the Terrorism Act of 1967.
