This Day in History: March 8, 2006
Additional Date: March 8, 2006
Celebrated South African photographer, David Goldblatt was honoured for his portrayal of social and political life in the country of his birth. David Goldblatt received the 2006 Hasselblad Foundation Award in photography. He received his prize, a golden medal and 500 000 kronor (almost R400 000), at a ceremony in December in Gothenburg, Sweden. The foundation cited that Goldblatt received the award because: "his acute historical and political perception provides a sense of the texture of daily life, and an important piece of missing information regarding life under Apartheid in South Africa".
