Business leader Matome Maponya is born

Matome Maponya, chair/owner of several food companies in his name and deputy chair of the Agricultural and Rural Development Corporation Ltd (ARDC), was born in Thabakgone, Tzaneen in the Eastern Transvaal (Limpopo Province). He was president of the National African Farmers' Union (1991-97) and member of the Management Committee of NAFCOC (1978-97) and has travelled extensively overseas. References: Hayes, S. (ed)(2000).
