Event Type:
The eighties in South Africa heralded a time of increased resistance against the Apartheid regime. The liberation movements had increased its military actions against the Apartheid regime, as the regime increasingly became more brutal in its suppression of critics, protesters and conscious objectors. The number of acts of sabotage carried out by the African National Congress (ANC) during 1984 is set at 44 as cited in the ANC's submission to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Most of these acts caused little disruption or economic damage, but they were invaluable in terms of boosting morale and ultimately forced the Apartheid State to the bargaining table.
