This Day in History: 9 June 1986
On this day Mr Mahlomela Mabizela, a member of Alexandra Action Committee (AAC) and chairman of the Alexandra Student Congress (ASCO) was shot dead through the window of a church hall while he attended an Alexandra Youth Congress meeting. The incident took place a few days after the Alexandra Youth Congress (AYCO) and ASCO members instructed the youth not to bring stolen cars to Alexandra Township. Both organizations, AYCO and ASCO, blamed the rival youth organizations for the shooting.
