Thesis has been submitted for the degree of Master of Arts in the Department of History, University of Natal, Durban, 1994. According to the author, his study explores the relationship between the African workers' struggle with the state within the industrial and commercial sector, and with the trade unions, in Durban, South Africa, beween 1959-1979, during the apartheid era.
