The resignations of former ANC National Chairperson Mosiuoa Lekota and former Amathole regional chairperson Mluleki George were submitted to the ANC shortly before they were due to appear before the ANC`s National Disciplinary Committee (NDC).
Lekota and George were last week summoned to appear at disciplinary hearings to be held today, Monday 3 November 2008, at Luthuli House.
Lekota faced eight charges, including behaving in such a way as to provoke serious divisions within the ANC, undermining respect for the structures of the organisation, participating in organised factional activity, bringing the organisation into disrepute, and engaging in behaviour which manifests a flagrant violation of the moral integrity expected of members.
George faced four charges, including behaving in such a way as to provoke serious divisions within the ANC, undermining respect for the structures of the organisation, prejudicing the operational capacity of the organisation, and acting on behalf or in collaboration with a group of persons who seek to prevent it from fulfilling its mission and objectives.
They resigned their membership of the ANC following receipt of the respective charge sheets, Lekota on Friday 31 October, and George on Sunday 2 November.
The disciplinary action followed the decision of the ANC National Working Committee (NWC) on 13 October 2008 to summarily suspend the ANC membership of Mosiuoa Lekota and Mluleki George with immediate effect, pending the institution and conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against them.
Now that neither of them is an ANC member, the charges fall away.
