Summary

In the following interview, Ambassador Kumalo jumps right into the need to understand the movement against apartheid in the United States as something built by sustained organizing and coalition building across the country over many years. He emphasizes the importance of always working with both black and white constituencies, and reflects on the persistence of racism in the United States and how it affected the movement. The genius of the Africa Fund, he says, was that it insisted that divestment be a local issue.
