The importance of the 1982 exhibition of South African Art held in Gaborone, Botswana, under the theme “Art towards Development” lies in the fact that the people of South Africa were involved in a struggle for national liberation and self-determination.
The entire spectrum of South society was represented at the exhibition. Cultural workers not only created the works of art but actively participated in organising the exhibition and conference and were responsible for what the exhibition had to say about the people of South Africa.
