Faure Marine Drive and Clarens Drive, Gordon's bay

Faure Marine Drive, which eventually becomes Clarence Drive, is a stretch of scenic coastal road leading to Gordon’s Bay. This is one of the best scenic drives to view Southern Right Whales.
Gordon’s Bay is a two harbour seaside town tucked between the ocean and the Hottentots Holland mountains. Less than 50km from Cape Town, Gordons Bay is the perfect beach location but also offering easy access to the winelands, the city and the magnificent drive into the start of the Overberg.

Shops and restaurants are plentiful, boating, sailing and all watersports are catered for, and the pier and smaller rocky beaches are filled with fishermen, where fresh fish is always readily available.

"From Gordon’s Bay a drive along the alternate route to Hermanus, the coastal heart of the Overberg. This is something not to be missed.Clarence Drive regularly features as one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the world!"

The well maintained road hugs dramatic mountains as it snakes in and out of bays and coves providing almost continuous views of the ocean as weaves around the mountain mimicking the shape of the coast. There are viewing points along the road that offer ample space to park and enjoy the view and a few spots have grassy sections or benches for picnics. This road takes you through the Kogelberg Biosphere, an area of astounding floral importance and natural beauty, as well as through or past the towns of Rooi-Els, Pringle Bay and on the Betty’s Bay and Kleinmond, all worth stopping at and part of the new Cape Way routes. This scenic coastal drive between the wind-swept hamlet of Rooi-Els and the naval town of Gordons Bay, nestled in the north-eastern crook of False Bay in the shadow of the Hottentots Hollands mountains. This drive is over 21 km, hugging the wild turquoise Cape coastline all the way. If you like passes with lots of corners, then this one is for you, as it contains 77 bends, curves and corners of which four are in excess of 150 degrees. The road is in a beautiful condition and attracts tourists, locals, bikers and cyclists in their droves. Overtaking is fairly limited and in general one can expect to average well below 60 kph.
