A Town 56 km South of Ermelo and 72 km South-East of Bethal, on the banks of the Schulpspruit River. It was founded in 1876 and proclaimed a town in 1890. Named after the city in the Netherlands, by its Founder, F Lion Cachet.
The Five Arches Bridge, at Waterval-Onder, Mpumalanga, spans the Dwaalheuvel Spruit and was completed in 1894. It is considered a masterpiece of stonework by the NZASM (Nederlandsche Zuid-Afrikaansche Spoorweg-Maatschappij) and is the only remaining bridge entirely constructed by this company, as all others have had their steel superstructures replaced over time. This historic bridge was designated a National Monument in 1963 and is now a Provincial Heritage Resource. (PICTURE IN BANNER)
