Restricted to Germiston, Transvaal. In mid 1978 banished to the Transkei.Former trade unionist with the National Union of Textile Workers and Secretary of the IAS; detained from 10 May ’76 to 16 May ’77 in terms of the Terrorism Act. After his release he was immediately served with a banning and house arrest order restricting him to his house between 6pm to 6am. His banning after a full year in detention was widely condemned. On 25 July he was deported to Butterworth in the transkei. His wife , two children and his nephew, none of whom are banned, were also deported. The Transkei Government was reported to have co-operated in the implementation of the deportation.
