African National Congress branch chairman in Alexandra Township in Johannesburg in the 1950s and one of the accused in the Treason Trial. He was born in Natal in 1918, began taking an interest in political affairs at an early age, and joined the ANC in 1945. During the Defiance Campaign he chaired a welfare committee assisting volunteers from Alexandra. He was the proprietor of a general dealer's store in Alexandra, and in the 1950s he led a group called the Alexandra Traders' Association. He was a defendant for the full length of the trial.
