Document 62 - Minutes of the meeting of the Workers' Party of South Africa. Johannesburg Branch, held at 90 President Street, Johannesburg, 3 April 1936 at 8.20 p.m.
Present: Comrades Phashe, Gosani, Sapire, Freislich, Kahn, Lee, (secretary)
Com Sapire was elected Chairman.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Treasurer, Com Sapire, reported 4/6 in hand.
Com Freislich reported that the attendance at the Spartacus Club was improving again. Com Gosani would lecture next Wednesday evening on "Bantu Woman's Place In Politics." It was decided that Dunbar be invited to lecture on "War", also Findlay, Danchen, B. Sachs (on "Trotsky, man, thinker, revolutionary") Ballinger (on "The Future of the Native Worker") F. A. W. Lucas. De Moore.
Com Gosani reported that the rains during last week had interfered with activities in the townships. Com Phashe reported a similar postponement of miners' meetings.
Com Kahn reported receipt of current "Spark" and pamphlets from U.S.A.
Com Gosani reported that a reading Room was being organised in the Club. Com Sapire offered to supply regularly, the Star; Com Kahn, the Mail;
Com Gosani, Umteteli; Com Phashe, Bantu World; Com Pompey, Umsebenzi and Umvekeli; Com Freislich, K.C.A.; The Party would donale the New Militant, New International and the Spark, It was decided to carry on the library without subscriptions or deposits but on the basis of 6d. per month. Com Lee reported on Classes and Bulletin. Com Phashe reported that he was writing a question and answers series. Com Lee was instructed to convene a meeting of the E.B, General:
Com Gosani reported that he was working out a plan of campaign.
