The South African Police Services (SAPS) celebrated its 10th anniversary for providing a service to South African democracy on 27 January 2005. Since this celebration, the   South African cabinet approved 27 January as National Police Day,  to commemorate    the establishment of the South African Police Services and to give recognition to police officers for their sacrifice and commitment to upholding safety and security for the country.
