Mannetjie Coetzer and his family had gone to the Kunene River in Namibia on a trip that they had planned for three years. The Kunene River is located on the border of Namibia and Angola and has a large population of Nile crocodiles. Mannetjie and his brother Lucas made their way to the river one night to take a bath when Coetzer was snatched by a crocodile barely two minutes after they had entered the water. Lucas tried to rescue his brother but it was pointless as the crocodile had been too quick in dragging him.  The family was distraught and took solace in knowing that Coetzer died in the great outdoors that he so loved.
