Lucas Seage

Lucas Seage was born on 02 November 1956 in Newclare, Johannesburg. Seage attended Barolong High School in Gaborone, Botswana and then Damelin College in Johannesburg in 1976. In that same year he also attended Mofolo Art Centre in Soweto and studied under Sydney Kumalo.

In 1977 he studied at the Open School under Nats Mokgosi and from 1978 to 1980 studied under Bill Ainslie, Ricky Burnett and Jenny Stadler at the Bill Ainslie Studios, where he was introduced to the Dada and Surrealist an movements.

Seage he won first prize in the Haenggi Foundation National Art Competition in 1981. This enabled him to take up a two year Konrad-Adenauer Foundation Bursary to study at the Dusseldorf Academy in West Germany under Joseph Beuys and Klaus Rinky.
