Nomkhosi Mary Mini

Nomkhosi  Mary Mini was born in 1959, the daughter of Vuyisile Mini, South African Congress of Trade Unions (SACTU) activist and first African National Congress (ANC) member to be executed by the apartheid state. Nomkhosi Mary Mini was born into a politically active family, says her sister Xolile Mini on the 26th day of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Trails on September 7,2000. Their mother, Wesilo Mini was a active member in the ANC and also the CP. Their father was a member of the Workers Union in the 1960s, he was hung in 1964. 

Nomkhosi was a founding member of Amandla, the Cultural Ensemble of the ANC. She became an uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) operative and survived a March 1979 South African Defence Force attack on the Novo Catengue camp in Angola. Nomkhosi Mini who was a member of ANC and killed in the maseru Massacre in 1982. She was shot dead (along with nine others, three of whom were Lesotho citizens) by members of the notorious Vlakplaas hit squad when they raided two houses in Maseru, Lesotho on 19 December 1985. Seven members of the Security branch, including its then deputy chief were refused amnesty for this assassination.
