He was born at KwaNobamba (Weenan), KZN. As a boy he herded sheep, cattle and goats and while looking after these animals he used to construct cows, birds and people in clay. He attended school at Mkhumbane (Cato Manor) and spent time making art objects.
He continued with his primary education at Mkhomazi on the Natal South Coast and then at Umzomuhle L.P. School, where he was encouraged to make art objects.
He attended the Mzuzu H.P. School and completed his primary education at the Mzwamandla H.P. School.
He has never received formal training in art. He exhibited on the annual exhibitions of the University of Zululand in 1984, 1985, 1987 and 1989. He has also exhibited his work at the African Art Centre, Durban. At present he is a self-employed building contractor working in the townships around Durban.
He is represented in the collection of the UZ and in private collections in SA and abroad.
