James Filbert Sojane, sports administrator and pioneer in the taxi industry, dies

James Filbert Sojane was born in the Free State in 1925. After qualifying as a teacher in the Free State, Sojane moved to Johannesburg to stay with his sister in Orlando East. He got a job at a clothing factory and before long, managed to buy himself a car. He operated the car as a taxi and thus began his career in the industry. Sojane joined Orlando Pirates as a supporter in 1966 He was soon elected Secretary of the Supporters Club and subsequently Secretary of the club its self. In 1973, Sojane was appointed club manager, a position that had a reputation for being unsafe since those people holding it usually had to fend off threats from competitors. . Somehow Sojane managed to bring about peace to the club as well as respect to the taxi industry. Sojane was married to Zipporah and they had a son and two daughters. He died on 16 February 1985.
