Before it was known Loftus this stadium was called 'Die Springbokpark', it was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 21 September 1979. Home to the Sundowns Football Club and the Blue Bulls rugby team, Loftus Versfeld received a welcomed revamp and renovation in preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, hosted by South Africa. It was built decades ago, and has seen a number of renovations, but the latest ones have set it apart as the world-class facility that it needed to be for this prestigious event.

The main areas that needed upgrades were the floodlights, the audio-visual equipment and the scoreboard. In addition, designated areas for the media needed to be constructed. Once these were revamped and built, the stadium was ready to welcome the tens of thousands of football fans that descended on Pretoria to watch their favourite teams play. However, it continues to be used for rugby games, a few soccer matches, concerts and other events. It is currently owned by the Blue Bulls Rugby Union.
Loftus Versfeld has a seating capacity of just over 51 700. Its facilities include a fan park (where there are fun things to do and see for all members of the family), a mobile ATM, Trademarx @ Loftus Restaurant & Bar, Blue Bulls Shop (with branded rugby gear and clothing), an auditorium, board halls, and luxurious suites for meetings and events.
Tours of the stadium can be arranged for those wanting to see its extents and hear about its history and future in the South African sporting world.
Loftus Versfeld is situated in Pretoria, which is just over 50 kilometres from Johannesburg. There are countless tourist attractions, accommodation facilities, and fun things for the entire family to see and do during their time in Gauteng.
