The House was designed by Johannesburg architects Leck & Emley, and was completed in 1906 as the home for HC Hull, who subsequently became the first Minister of Finance in the Union Parliament. It was considered to be one of the most outstanding examples of the elegant homes erected in Parktown after the turn of the 20th century, and was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 26 October 1984.
