Anthony Holiday had served as a senior reporter on the Cape Times newspaper prior to his arrest, and had also been employed by the Rand Daily Mail as a political journalist. In November 1976 he was charged in the Pretoria Supreme Court under the Terrorism Act. He was charged with receiving money from the ANC and SACP, establishing an underground cell with three others, publishing propagandist material, attempting to undergo training in subversive activities while in Britain in 1969 and attempting to train recruits to evade surveillance. All of the above mentioned activities were said to have taken place with the aim of promoting the policies of banned organisations. Holiday was convicted in November 1976 and sentenced to serve six years’ imprisonment to be served in Pretoria Local Prison. He was due for release in 1982.
