Committees Drift was a military outpost established by the British during the frontier war of 1819. The name "committees" is pronounced by locals as as "kommetjies", indicating that its origins may be of Khoikhoi or Dutch origin. In Dutch "kommetjies" are a series of small depressions in the veld which, when combined with "Drift", does not make much sense.
