Gift Of The Givers Foundation logo Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, national co-ordinator of the Gift Of The Givers Foundation, announced in Johannesburg that the foundation would fly forty tons of food, medical supplies and water into Somalia immediately after getting a go-ahead from the United Nations to aid tsunami victims in Somalia on 30 January. This was the first humanitarian relief from the African continent to fly into Somalia directly, carrying aid supplies valued at R3-million. About 54 000 people were affected by the disaster on 26 December 2004.
