Peter Lindenberg, South Africa’s powerboat champion

Peter Lindeberg won the European Barefoot Water-Skiing title in 1977.[i] Peter won his first South African powerboat racing title, as well as set a world record in the ramp jump in barefoot water-skiing in 1981.[ii] He won the British Powerboat Grand Prix in the 1989 World Powerboat Series.[iii] Peter won the Maccabi Sports Award on three occasions. He competed in the South African Stock Car Auto Racing championships in 2002.[iv] Peter has also been awarded the State President’s Sports Award on two occasions.[v] Peter was inducted into the South African Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.[vi] He retired from Formula One powerboat racing 18 months prior to his planned retirement after he was involved in a nearly fatal boating accident in Saldanha Bay on 28 September 2002.[vii] After retiring, Peter took on a more administrative position in the sport of high speed power boating, and became President of Powerboat South Africa.[viii] Peter has three daughters named Paige, Chiara and Abbi with his wife Debbie.[ix]
