Following the outbreak of pandemonium in South Africa and the use of violence by security forces in dealing with the issues in suppressing the aspirations of the people, the Second International Trade Union Conference for Action against Apartheid, Palais des Nations, Geneva, was organised by the Workers' Group of the International Labour Organisation's (ILO) Governing Body. The meeting was convened in cooperation with the United Nations Special Committee against Apartheid. The main aim was discuss the South African situation and what action they needed to take in order to halt what was brewing in South Africa.
