On 12 August 1913, Koos De La Rey, a South African War II General, was ordered to meet with Generals Jan C Smuts and Louis Botha in Pretoria. The trio was going to discuss about a planned Burghers rebellion. During this meeting De La Rey was persuaded not to speak to the Burghers on 15 August 1913.
The Burgers were expecting De La Rey to fulfil a Van Rensburg prophecy by leading a rebellion against the Union of South Africa, which was formed after the defeat of Boer Republics in the South African War.
