9 April 1901
The Zulu army ordered to arm by Col. Bottomley to assist the British during the Anglo-Boer War, marched back to Nongoma. Two Zulus were killed in confrontation and about 48 000 head of cattle looted from the Boers during the expedition. Bottomley had terminated the project because feeding the Zulu force of 6 000 men was a problem and some of the Zulus had been looting stock from Zulu kraals.
